Welcome to my office!

Who comes to see me?

There are many reasons that adults, adolescents and children come to see me. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychiatric problems, or problems with anxiety or depression. Other times it is in response difficult changes in their lives, for example, a divorce or work transition, or difficulty transitioning to high school or college. Many people seek their own personal exploration and growth, guided by a knowledgeable professional. Still other people have problems dealing with stress, body image issues or interpersonal relations. Others are working on overcoming their creative blocks. Working with a psychiatrist provides insight, support, and a variety of different strategies for navigating through many kinds of life’s challenges.

I am fully equipped to help people experiencing more serious problems, learning to live with bipolar disorder, OCD, schizoaffective disorder, and active trauma issues such as PTSD. Some of the adults and children I see are learning how to live with their ADHD, some have learning disabilities. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards a positive change.

About therapy

Therapy, both talk therapy and medication therapy, when necessary, provides long-lasting benefits, giving you the tools to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns of behavior, and overcome present as well as future challenges. Therapy helps you attain a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values.

But it’s not just a matter of coming weekly for fifty minutes…

Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth. There may be times when you are asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors. It is important to process what has been discussed and integrate it into your life between sessions. You must be an active participant, during and between sessions. People involved in psychotherapy work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.

In some cases, a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action. It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication, however at times medication can help you make the most of your therapy. In some rare cases medication is needed in order to initiate therapy. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. It is my role to help you use the means necessary to help you grow toward a more fulfilling, healthy life.

I specialize in state-of-the-art, outpatient treatment of the major psychiatric disorders, and in helping patients with issues that “get in their way.” Most of my patients go to work or to school and lead “normal lives.” Other patients have more significant distress. I treat each person with what he or she needs, whether it is with interpersonal psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, family therapy or pharmacotherapy. I am happy to be able to help my patients with every aspect of their mental health care, and to be able to integrate modalities as they are needed.

When am I available?

I try to make myself available to patients including during lunch hours so that they may continue to lead their lives normally.

Is therapy affordable?

I also try to make my services as affordable as possible. It is important to be able to afford your health needs. I have a limited number of sliding scale rates, and my standard fee is within the reach of most people. I will also be happy to give you any paperwork you need so that you may submit claims if you choose to use your insurance’s out-of-network option.

I look forward to hearing from you, working with you, and offering you compassionate, top-quality health care at an affordable rate.
